N.O.A. Dodges Storms and Settles for a Humid August Match

(Match Report by Tyler Patner)

Sunday the 29th of August was a hot and humid day in Northeast Ohio with a small chance of rain for the afternoon. That did not deter the season high, 35 shooters from attending and enjoying themselves on our woods course. As we prepare for the Burning River 120 next month, we adjusted a handful of target placements that seemed to be well received by all in attendance.

The troyer for the course was a 33T before outside factors were considered. The course was set with a little more than half of the target over 40 yards, thankfully there was not much wind to contend with. What there was though, was some very challenging lighting conditions, especially towards the end of the match. As storm clouds moved in, the already dark woods course was made even darker. Compound that with a number of black and brown painted targets, and you have a recipe for not only difficult ranging, but also difficult target location. I know this took a toll on a number of shooters on their last few lanes. Thankfully, the rains held off until we had completed the shoot and had everything torn down.

We had a number of new shooters join us for the match this month, and from talking with them at the end of the day, I believe we have some new FT converts on our hands! Scott Collins shot an impressive 42 borrowing Dennis Himes’ rifle for the day. And on the piston side we had two new shooters in Matt Uhler and Erik Anderson who both shot well in Hunter Piston and we expect to see them back soon!

Scores were tight at the top of Hunter PCP, with Dennis Himes edging out Jeff Little and Jeff Swartz with a 54/60. The Jeff’s both shot 52’s and Jeff Little took second place with a coin flip. There were another 4-5 shooters within striking distance of the podium and it really goes to show the quality and skill of the shooters that we are consistently seeing at the top of the score boards.

Keith Walters continued his dominance this season, shooting his Blue Beast RAW to an impressive 57! Way to go Keith. Larry Justinus was the lone WFTF PCP shooter in this match, and posted a 34. In Hunter Piston, Dan Putz put in a dominant 42 with his Air Arms TX200. Also shooting a TX200, was Tyler Patner in WFTF Piston, turning in a 50 for the day.

After the match, we enjoyed some local pizza and handed out awards to the top shooters in each division. Thanks to everyone who stuck around to help us tear the course down, it is greatly appreciated especially considering the threat of rain was high.

We are gearing up for the Burning River 120 Grand Prix match, which will be held from September 24th - 26th. You can find more information on our website here:
